WHAT IS A LIFE COACH?
A life coach is a qualified individual who is trained to help you look at your strengths as well as beliefs that might be blocking you from achieving your dreams. Helping you look at different perspectives and to remind you of what really makes you… ‘ You’.
This approach helps you to move forward in life whilst being true to yourself. Giving you clarity, purpose and strength and direction.
The sessions are usually weekly, forthrightly or monthly, depending on the need of the client and can last from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.
WHAT DOES THE PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
The Coach designs an environment with the Coachee that feels safe, is confidential and allows the Coachee to explore without fear of judgement or being right or wrong.
The Coachee talks about their desired goals and together the partners (coach and client) explore the goals, the journey, the possibilities and all that may or may not help.
This conversation and the tools and techniques used are designed to make the client more aware about themselves and the different choices they have in choosing their path.
The coach and the client design a structure which helps the client to chart their progress and discover where a change of strategy or redesigning is needed, thus helping the client move forward towards their goal while at the same time being true to their values and becoming more and more aware of themselves.
HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT COACH?
Coaching is personal and it’s important that you find the right partner for your journey. Someone you can trust and count on to challenge you where you have a tendency to play small.
These days a lot of people are coming forward as life coaches. A very good way is to check their credentials, the type of training they attended and whether they are members of ICF (International Coaching Federation) a governing body for coaches that ensures that coaches are properly trained and maintains ethical guidelines which all their members have to comply with.
Coaches typically offer a short sample session, which allows both the coach and the perspective client to get a ‘feel’ of each other, and to see if they are a good match.
